MY STORY
Gaby is a director, dramaturg, teacher, and storyteller from Santiago de Cuba and Houston, TX. She found comfort in the theatre when she moved from Cuba to Houston, Texas in 2011. Theatre helped her learn a new language and become aquatinted with a foreign world. Now, she wants to share the gift of theatre with others that have never been exposed to it . From plays to musicals, she is constantly searching for stories that represent and invite our community to the theatre.
Directing credits include Fefu and Her Friends at Theatre Nuevo, Suffer the Children and Billy Elliot at The Center of Creative Arts (COCA), Miss You Like Hell at the Webster Conservatory, and SHAKE38: The War of the Roses with Shakespeare Festival STL. New work development include: Dear Kitty…Querida Ana with In the Margin Theatre Company, Ni Aquí Ni Allá with Great River Shakespeare Festival, and Refuge with Campfire Theatre Festival. As an Assistant Director, she has worked at Great River Shakespeare Festival and The Repertory Theatre of STL. She was also the Assistant Director for Theatre Under the Stars’ Public Works Houston (Seussical).
She received her BA in Directing from the Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University with a Minor in English Literature. She has assisted great directors like Dan Knechtges, Stafford Arima, Melissa Rain Anderson, Jess Shoemaker, Beth Gardiner, Bryan Hunt, Doug Finlayson, and Seth Gordon. Gaby is forever grateful to them and many more mentors that have taught her so much throughout her career. She hopes to follow their footsteps and look forward to future collaborations with more wonderful artists.
